Your California Privacy Rights

This California Privacy Rights notice supplements our Privacy Policy and applies to California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information.

Notice at Collection

When you submit a quote request, we collect personal information to connect you with insurance providers. We use this information for providing quotes, marketing, analytics, and improving our services. Your information may be sold or shared with insurance partners. Categories of Personal Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information for auto insurance quote purposes:

Identifiers

Name, postal address, email address, phone number, date of birth

Note: We do NOT collect Social Security numbers or driver's license numbers for auto insurance quotes. Insurance companies may request this information after we connect you with them.

Commercial Information

Vehicle information (year, make, model, VIN), current insurance status and carrier, self-reported driving history (accidents and violations), coverage preferences (liability limits, deductibles), desired coverage start date, homeownership status

Internet or Network Activity

Browsing history on our website, pages viewed, search history, interaction with advertisements, device information (browser type, operating system), IP address, cookies and similar tracking technologies

Geolocation Data

Approximate location based on IP address and ZIP code from the address you provide

Note: We do NOT collect precise GPS location or device location data.

Inferences

Profile reflecting insurance needs, coverage preferences, risk characteristics, and likelihood of purchasing insurance

Sensitive Personal Information

Our Collection of Sensitive Data

Under California law, certain categories of personal information are considered "sensitive." For auto insurance lead generation:

  • Date of Birth: We collect this for age verification and quote accuracy. This is necessary to determine insurance eligibility and is not used to infer other characteristics about you.
  • What We DON'T Collect: We do not collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account information, precise geolocation, biometric data, health information, or other categories defined as sensitive under CPRA.

Your Right to Limit: You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to perform services. However, our current use of date of birth already falls within this limitation (age verification for quotes).

Right to Know

You have the right to request that we disclose:

  • The categories of personal information we collected about you
  • The categories of sources from which we collected your personal information
  • The business or commercial purpose for collecting your personal information
  • The categories of third parties with whom we share your personal information
  • The specific pieces of personal information we collected about you

Lookback Period: Requests will include data collected in the 12 months prior to your request.

Right to Delete

You have the right to request that we delete personal information we collected from you, subject to certain exceptions under the law (such as completing transactions, fraud prevention, and legal compliance).

Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing

You have the right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We share personal information with insurance partners, which may be considered a "sale" or "share" under California law.

You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.

Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information

You have the right to limit our use and disclosure of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to perform services. However, our current use of date of birth (age verification for quotes) already falls within this limitation.

Right to Non-Discrimination

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your California privacy rights. However, some features or services may not be available if you request deletion or opt out of certain processing necessary for the Services.

How to Exercise Your Rights

Submit a Request

You can submit a request to exercise your rights by:

Verification Process

To protect your privacy, we will verify your identity before processing your request. We will:

  • Match information you provide against information in our records (email address, phone number, address)
  • Send an email confirmation to the address on file
  • May require additional verification for deletion requests involving large amounts of data

We cannot process requests if we cannot verify your identity.

Authorized Agent

You may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf. The agent must provide:

  • Signed written authorization from you specifically authorizing the agent to act
  • Proof of the agent's identity
  • Proof that the agent is registered with the California Secretary of State (for California agents)

We may require direct confirmation from you that you authorized the agent.

Response Timeframes

  • Right to Know: We will respond within 45 days (extendable by 45 days with notice)
  • Right to Delete: We will respond within 45 days (extendable by 45 days with notice)
  • Right to Opt-Out: We will honor requests within 10 business days
  • Right to Correct: We will respond within 45 days (extendable by 45 days with notice)

California "Shine the Light" Law

California Civil Code § 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, email privacy@insurancebest.com with "Shine the Light Request" in the subject line.
